Actionable Issues
Issues
Vibrant, attractive, walkable, downtown
I have helped create art and cultural events downtown. I will strive to protect trees, add lighting, and hardy landscaping to our streetscape and develop pedestrian only thoroughfares.
Responsible development
I support development that encourages more affordable housing and I support business development that serves long-term community well-being. Business partners and I developed an apartment building with smaller affordable units in historic downtown.
Ending Homelessness
While we’re expanding shelter and transitional housing options, we also need to expand coordinated support services and increase affordable housing through more multi-family and middle housing options.
An environmentally responsible city
I will apply my experience as a master recycler and Green Award recipient, and my work providing outdoor learning experiences for kids, to impliment our Climate Action Plan. I will support less reliance on cars through more public transit stops and connected pedestrian and bike paths.
A city that takes care of itself
That means maintaining sidewalks and parks; protecting trees; increased debris cleanup, recreational areas for healthy physical activity; and greater access to mental health services
A city welcoming to all
To support diversity, inclusion and equity as core city values.

About Linda Nishioka
I am running to represent Ward 2 because I believe my experience and background can assist me in making Salem an even more livable, healthy, and affordable city.
I have lived in the Willamette Valley most of my life, attending high school in Beaverton, and college in Portland. While at OSHU I met my husband Gary Nishioka, MD, DMD, and after several years moving around the country while he finished his dental and medical training, we settled in Salem, Gary’s hometown, in 1998.
I became active in the community almost immediately after arriving here – first as a volunteer at my son’s schools, and then in environmental projects, including serving on the board of the Straub Environmental Learning Center.
In recent years I have become involved in a variety of efforts focused on making downtown Salem a more sustainable and vibrant community, serving on the City of Salem’s Riverfront Park and Streetscape committees, the Historic Preservation Planning Committee, and the Downtown Advisory Board, and serving on the board of the Salem Main Street Association.
Now that I have retired, after 22 years at Willamette Ear, Nose, Throat & Facial Plastic Surgery, I am ready to help Salem tackle the challenges ahead.
Don’t Forget to Vote!
I’m running to represent Ward 2 because I believe my experience and background can assist me in making Salem an even more livable, healthy, and affordable city.
